Phases of the Moon

"Phases of the Moon incorporates narration, giving the audience the feeling of a story being told in another time, another place. Light front ensemble opens the first movement in a mystical style, while the first narration gives foreshadowing to the styling of musical voices to come before the brass and drums change the tone to a jazzy side. Complementary voices give the ballad a processional flare, utilizing a soft snare to support a building brass presence, eventually layering each section for a grand ringing close. A darker rephrase of the opening narration gives
audio representation to the eerie side of a dark night, bringing tension with the closer before reintroducing the
jazzy themes previously heard. After a strong finish by the full band, the production fades out gently
into the night with one last narration and the lullaby pit from the opening.
